Indications

Ciprosol Injection: Ciprosol injection is effective against several diseases as Respiratory Tract infections, Gastro-Intestinal infections, Enterotoxaemia, Skin Bone & Ear infections, Anthrax, Swine dysentery, Uterine infections, Udder infections, Urinary Tract Infection.

Ciprosol Solution: This is effective against several diseases as C.R.D, C.C.R.D, Mycoplasmosis, Salmonelosis, Colibacillosis, Infectious Coryza, Pasteurellosis. Streptococcosis, Staphylococcosis etc. and may be used in viral disease like Gumboro, Newcastle disease etc. followed by secondary bacterial infections.

Pharmacology

Chlortetracycline is used as an antimicrobial in veterinary therapeutics. As with other tetracyclines, it is a broad spectrum antibiotic with a wide range of bacteriostatic activity against both gm(-) and gm(+) bacteria. Chlortetracycline appears to act by inhibiting the binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the mRNA ribosome complex, thereby preventing the bacterial protein synthesis.

Dosage & Administration

Ciprofloxacin injection:
  • Large & Small Animals: 1 ml Ciprofloxacin injection per 10 kg bodyweight daily for 3-5 days or 5 mg ciprofloxacin BP/kg. Or as directed by the Veterinarian.
  • Chickens: 5 mg ciprofloxacin BP per kg body weight or as directed by the Veterinarian.
Ciprofloxacin solution: Poultry:
  • Treatment: 1 ml per 1-2 liter of drinking water for 3-5 days.
  • Prevention: 1 ml per 4-8 liter of drinking water for 3 days. or as directed by the Veterinarian.
Ciprofloxacin bolus: Livestock:
  • 1 gm bolus: 1 bolus/75-150 kg body weight or 6.7-13.4 mg/kg body weight twice daily for 3-5 days.

Interaction

Ciprosol administered together with theophylline can lead to elevated blood levels of theophylline.

Contraindications

Patients receiving ciprofloxacin should be well hydrated and should be instructed to drink fluids liberally. Because of the risk of crystalluria, it is recommended that the usual dosage of the drug should not be exceeded. Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin or to other quinolones.

Side Effects

Central nervous system (CNS) toxicity; gastrointestinal reactions; hematuria; hepatotoxicity; hypersensitivity reactions; Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (blistering, itching, loosening, peeling, or redness of skin; diarrhea).

Pregnancy & Lactation

The doses of ciprofloxacin of up to 20 mg per kg of body weight (mg/kg) in pregnant rats and mice have not shown evidence of maternal toxicity, embryotoxicity, or teratogenic effects. Ciprofloxacin can be distributed into milk, sometimes at a higher concentration than in plasma, but it is not known under what conditions significant amounts might be absorbed by nursing animals.

Precautions & Warnings

It should be used with caution in patients with suspected or known CNS disorders. For Veterinary Use only.
